Overview

The Cook General serves as a team lead, assisting with the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of a wide variety of food items at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

In Short

• Prepares and cooks various meats, vegetables, soups, and breakfast dishes.
• Receives ingredients and supplies for daily operations.
• Reviews production schedules to determine food requirements.
• Maintains cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
• Caters special events as required.
• Prepares special diets according to prescribed standards.
• Records inventory and orders stock as needed.
• Completes production sheets and other records.
• Tests food for quality during cooking.
• Organizes and coordinates daily cooking activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Ability to gather data and prepare reports.
• Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
• Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods.
• Organizational and coordination skills.
• Ability to use cleaning equipment and supplies safely.
• Knowledge of inventory control and ordering supplies.
• Ability to detect and manage spoiled or defective food.
• Experience in baking pastries and breads.
• Strong communication skills.
