Mortgage Senior VA Underwriter - Remote

Overview

Responsible for underwriting mortgage loans, including government loans to determine acceptability with M&T Bank and secondary market standards set by the investor to ensure saleability and sound credit quality while adhering to the requirements of Federal registration under the SAFE Act.

• Underwrite conventional FHA and VA residential mortgage loans.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 4-6 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
• Direct Endorsement (DE) or LAPP approval is preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of DU/LP valuations and investor guidelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of credit risk assessment processes.
• Ability to interact with all levels of staff and customers.
• Knowledge of industry tools for ensuring loan saleability.
• Experience in dealing with conforming and non-conforming guidelines.
• Sound decision-making skills related to underwriting.
