Overview

The Certified Medical Coder is a member of the Billing Team responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding, maximizing revenues and cash flow to the organization.

In Short

• Reviews patient records for procedural and diagnostic coding.
• Verifies accuracy and completeness of diagnosis codes.
• Contacts providers for documentation clarification.
• Maintains quality and productivity standards.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Remains current on coding guidelines.
• Designs audit tools for coding accuracy.
• Submits claims electronically and manually.
• Researches claim denials.
• Maintains strict patient confidentiality.

Requirements

• Current Medical Coding certificate.
• Knowledge of ICD, HCPS, and CPT coding.
• High School graduate.
• Typing speed of at least 40 WPM.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of health insurance plans.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Current Oregon Driver’s License.
