Director of Underwriting - Remote

Overview

The Director of Underwriting leads the underwriting operations team and effectively develops and enforces risk policies, oversees deal evaluations, and drives automation and efficiency in the underwriting processes. The Director partners closely with Sales, Risk, Product, and Technology leaders to ensure fast, consistent, and data-driven funding decisions that support GBC’s growth and risk appetite.

• Serves as the final approver on high-risk or large-dollar funding decisions.
• Identifies and implements innovative opportunities to enhance underwriting processes.
• Builds, coaches, and manages the underwriting team.

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field.
• 15 years of professional experience with leadership in underwriting.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with financial data.
• Remote position with minimal travel required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field required.
• 15 years of professional work experience, including leadership roles.
• 10+ years in underwriting, preferably in fintech or small business lending.
• Deep understanding of credit risk assessment.
• Experience evaluating cash flow and industry risk factors.
• Proven experience leading and scaling underwriting teams.
• Ability to refine underwriting policies while balancing risk and growth.
