Site Reliability Engineer - Environment Automation - Remote

Overview

As a Site Reliability Engineer at GitLab, you are responsible for keeping all user-facing services and other GitLab production systems running smoothly. Our SREs are a blend of pragmatic operators and software craftspeople that apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to our operating environments and the GitLab codebase.

In Short

• Automate operational tasks for GitLab environments.
• Create deployment packages like GitLab Helm Chart.
• Build dedicated GitLab setups using Ansible and Terraform.
• Deploy and operate microservices on Kubernetes.
• Work on GitLab observability stack (e.g. ELK, Prometheus).
• Interact with cloud provider systems (e.g. GCP, AWS).
• Develop and monitor cloud security practices.
• Respond to user emergencies and support requests.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on architectural bottlenecks.
• Maintain a reliable system for quick maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• Experience in running and operating production workloads.
• Strong programming skills, preferably with Ruby and/or Go.
• Background with Infrastructure as Code technologies like Terraform and Ansible.
• Able to reason about large systems and their operations.
• Enjoy collaborating across teams to solve technical challenges.
• Experience interacting with customers and resolving requests.
