Overview

The customer service representative serves as the frontline liaison between healthcare providers and patients. This role provides patients with information pertaining to their health insurance coverage, assists with billing inquiries, and provides financial assistance options as necessary.

In Short

  • Answer incoming calls and emails from patients addressing billing inquiries.
  • Process patient billing inquiries and explain insurance coverage.
  • Update and maintain accurate patient records ensuring confidentiality.
  • Escalate patient complaints to leadership or the client as applicable.
  • Notify patients of outstanding patient responsibility balances.
  • Validate patient coverage and benefits using payer portals.
  • Participate in required team meetings and coaching sessions.
  • Achieve maximum reimbursement for services provided.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as a customer service representative, ideally in healthcare.
  • Knowledge of explanation of benefits (EOB) and patient medical records.
  • Knowledge of insurance reimbursement policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to proactively solve problems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom/Webex.
