Overview

The Assistant County Counsel will provide legal assistance and advice to the County of Brant, focusing on municipal law and litigation.

In Short

  • Report to the County Solicitor & Corporate Counsel.
  • Provide legal advice to Council and municipal staff.
  • Conduct prosecutions under the Provincial Offences Act.
  • Assist in litigation and represent the County in various legal matters.
  • Negotiate and draft contracts and legal documents.
  • Perform legal research and prepare legal opinions.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal laws and regulations.
  • Work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Provide high-level public service and support to the community.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or Juris Doctorate (JD) degree.
  • Membership in the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Licensed to practice law in Ontario.
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience in municipal law.
  • Expertise in municipal government operations and relevant legislation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage priorities.
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated safe work practices.
