Payroll Specialist - Remote

Overview

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all payroll-related functions for Charter Impact’s clients, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while providing training and support to client staff.

• Manage payroll functions for clients with varying levels of payroll knowledge.
• Provide training to client staff on payroll processes.
• Ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance.
• Assist with payroll tax reporting and account reconciliation.
• Review and enter new hires and employee changes into payroll systems.
• Prepare and submit retirement plan reports and payments.
• Maintain standard operating procedures for process improvement.
• Collaborate with Staff Accountants for month-end closings.
• Engage in team-building events and maintain a collaborative environment.
• Work remotely with occasional on-site requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma required; payroll certification is a plus.
• 1-2 years of payroll processing experience preferred.
• Experience with payroll databases like ADP and Paycor.
• Intermediate knowledge of payroll laws and Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multi-state payroll.
• Ability to adapt quickly and work independently.
• HR experience and background in nonprofit or education sectors are a plus.
