Overview

The Manager of Small Group Underwriting is responsible for overseeing the underwriting processes for small group and SB ASO, ensuring financial results align with corporate goals while managing staff and improving operational efficiencies.

In Short

  • Manage underwriting for small groups and SB ASO.
  • Make financial decisions regarding rate relief requests.
  • Represent underwriting on corporate committees.
  • Calculate customer financial settlements accurately.
  • Evaluate and improve process flows for efficiency.
  • Complete required reporting for group and ASO.
  • Recruit and develop underwriting staff.
  • Supervise compliance staff performing audits.
  • Manage various financial transactions.
  • Demonstrate leadership and negotiation skills.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience in risk selection principles.
  • 1 year experience as a project/team lead.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and web tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce, MARIS, and Stepwise is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in health insurance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to engage in continued education.
  • Ability to manage off-site meetings and training.
