Legal Counsel, Product & Privacy - Remote

Overview

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. This role offers a unique opportunity to join the Product and Privacy function for Canva in Australia, working at the intersection of AI, product counseling, and legal strategy.

In Short

• Identify and advise on legal issues in privacy, data protection, and AI regulation.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders to advise on product development.
• Contribute to the development of company-wide AI policies.
• Draft and maintain legal playbooks related to AI technologies.
• Collaborate with privacy, IP, and engineering teams.
• Help build effective processes for legal review of new products.
• Participate in the review of privacy or data security incidents.
• Stay updated with global AI and privacy regulations.

Requirements

• Legally qualified (AUS/NZ, UK, EU or US practicing certificate).
• 3-6 years of practicing law, preferably in a technology company.
• Familiarity with digital, privacy, and consumer protection regulations.
• Comfort collaborating with team members in different time zones.
• Collaborative, pragmatic, and business-minded lawyer.
• Ability to simplify compliance without compromising standards.
• Experience working with engineers, PMs, and marketers.
• Risk aware and motivated by meaningful work.
