Director of Cafe Development (Construction) North America - Remote

Overview

Blue Bottle Coffee is looking for a Director of Cafe Development to serve as the head of construction for cafe development in North America. This individual will oversee all aspects of construction across our growing portfolio of cafes and facilities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high-quality standards.

In Short

• Lead all construction processes for new cafe and facility builds, renovations, and upgrades.
• Define and execute a globally scalable cafe development process.
• Oversee budgeting, bidding, scheduling, permitting, and construction execution.
• Ensure cost-effective delivery by identifying value engineering opportunities.
• Maintain and evolve Blue Bottle’s construction standards and processes.
• Vet, select, and manage general contractors and consultants.
• Conduct site reviews and coordinate project closeout documentation.
• Partner closely with Real Estate and Design teams.
• Establish KPIs to drive accountability and optimize development processes.
• Report project status and risks to senior leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in construction management for retail.
• Experience in building out retail spaces in high-growth industries.
• Proven success in scaling physical retail across multiple markets.
• Expertise in managing full development lifecycles.
• Deep knowledge of MEP systems and construction documents.
• Experience working with remote teams and managing complex timelines.
• Exceptional communication and vendor management skills.
• A passion for great coffee and thoughtful design.
