Staff Attorney I, Preventing and Ending Homelessness Project - Remote

Overview

For over 50 years, Bet Tzedek Legal Services has set the standard for innovation and excellence in social and economic justice. Bet Tzedek is seeking a determined, organized, and zealous attorney to work in our new coordinated service delivery program.

In Short

• Attend monthly clinics to provide legal advice and limited scope representation to individuals at risk of eviction.
• Collaborate with community organizations to develop education and training materials.
• Train case managers on enforcing clients’ housing rights.
• Provide legal representation to tenants and unhoused residents.
• Litigate landlord-tenant cases and represent clients in negotiations.
• Provide legal services to prevent terminations from the Housing Choice Voucher program.
• Enforce fair housing rights through demand letters and complaints.
• Write reasonable accommodation letters for access to housing.
• Address tenant harassment and illegal rent increases through legal action.

Requirements

• Understanding of Bet Tzedek’s mission and core values.
• Active member of California State Bar in good standing.
• Ability to work independently with case support.
• Minimum two years’ experience in non-profit legal services.
• Experience in landlord-tenant law.
• Experience in fair housing law.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
