Backend Software Engineer II - Remote

Overview

As a Backend Software Engineer II on the Origination Group Engineering Team, you will work closely with the Enrollment Product Managers, Underwriters, and our external partners to develop and support solutions to power our digital life insurance enrollment experience.

In Short

• Develop web services using Python + PostgreSQL, Java, and Drools Rule Language.
• Help build new platform capabilities that scale with our business.
• Collaborate with teams across Bestow to plan and execute the product roadmap.
• Work remotely, requiring effective written communication and teleconference skills.
• Proactively propose solutions to problems and opportunities.
• Write maintainable software, including automated tests.
• Ensure features are observable and monitored for failure.
• Work well with designers, product managers, and other engineers.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience (backend).
• Experience with cloud computing & Kubernetes preferred.

Requirements

• Professional experience with Python or Java is preferred.
• Comfortable using Docker for local software development.
• Familiar with modern, scalable system architectures.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
• Familiar with API design tools/languages.
• Experience building, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting software.
