Legal Counsel - Remote

Overview

The Legal Counsel assists in the provision of all legal oversight and legal services for the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) under the supervision of the Vice President of Legal Affairs.

In Short

• Creates and processes DWIHN contracts with the State of Michigan and other entities.
• Negotiates and drafts contracts and commercial transactions.
• Provides legal analysis on FOIA, OMA, health law, HIPAA, and other legal matters.
• Serves as a resource for Medicaid, Medicare, and behavioral health programs.
• Interprets the Michigan Mental Health Code.
• Reviews and drafts various agreements.
• Analyzes legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Manages complex projects and coordinates legal staff work.
• Supports PIHP and CMHSP operations.
• Ensures compliance with privacy laws and regulations.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Five years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
• Knowledge of litigation, corporate transactions, and health law.
• Understanding of Medicaid and Medicare programs.
• Familiarity with DWIHN policies and Michigan Mental Health Code.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Membership in the State Bar of Michigan.
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
