Overview

This is the intermediate level of the claim handler career path. Exercise progressively more discretion in providing prompt, cost effective and efficient examination, investigation and settlement of 1st party commercial property insurance claims for excess and surplus lines and admitted policies. Provide informed coverage analysis and settle claims within authority.

In Short

  • Evaluate commercial property claim coverage and determine the scope of damages.
  • Adjust a caseload of assigned files in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct prompt, thorough, and fair investigations by obtaining relevant facts and expert input.
  • Assign, direct, and handle property losses through the use of Independent Adjusters.
  • Maintain an active diary on caseload with a plan of action for each file.
  • Adhere to assigned authority limits for reserving and payments.
  • Proficient in writing position letters and detailed settlement letters.
  • Knowledge of local codes, laws, and standards.
  • Provide timely customer service and investigate recovery opportunities.
  • Ensure claims are handled effectively and cost efficiently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of commercial property experience preferred.
  • Experience handling claims in multiple jurisdictions preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Ability to use company standard software and computers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
