Overview

The Benefits Specialist role involves providing specialized support for the development, implementation, and administration of benefits programs at the University of Chicago, ensuring effective communication and assistance to staff and faculty regarding their benefits.

In Short

  • Administer Health and Welfare, and Retirement benefits.
  • Counsel staff, faculty, and retirees on benefits enrollment and changes.
  • Process enrollments and disenrollments via Workday.
  • Resolve benefit issues and inquiries via email and phone.
  • Conduct benefit presentations for employees and new hires.
  • Maintain benefits records and documentation.
  • Work with unit administrators on employee benefits.
  • Assist in the administration of designated benefit plans.
  • Support the development of cost-effective benefits programs.
  • Perform other related work as needed.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in a related job discipline.
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Experience in benefits, human resources, or business.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and manage multiple projects.
  • Research, analyze, and present data effectively.
