Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I in Hematology performs a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions.

In Short

• Conduct analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, and other biological samples.
• Perform quality controls and corrective actions as required.
• Enter test results into computer information systems.
• Provide technical information to RN’s, physicians, or laboratory clients.
• Use laboratory computer systems for test orders and result generation.
• Maintain lab analyzers and automation lines.
• Operate laboratory equipment for analysis.
• Communicate with clinics and physicians regarding sample integrity.
• Maintain certifications and continuing education.
• Perform proficiency testing required for accreditation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences.
• ASCP certified or eligible.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Ability to perform routine and complex laboratory tests.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control standards.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare environment.
• Proficient in using laboratory information systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Willingness to maintain ongoing education and training.
