Institutional Data Analyst - Remote

Overview

The Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research (OPAIR) at Penn State is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Institutional Data Analyst to support the University’s required state and federal reporting. This position is central to the preparation and submission of official data reports to federal and state agencies, higher education consortia, and national rankings organizations.

In Short

• Lead or support the preparation and submission of required institutional reports to external agencies.
• Coordinate and complete data submissions for national rankings and benchmarking efforts.
• Develop, manage, and maintain complex SQL queries for reporting and analysis.
• Create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate trends and key metrics.
• Ensure data accuracy and compliance by resolving data quality issues.
• Document and manage reporting processes for transparency and repeatability.
• Collaborate with Institutional Reporting Specialists and campus stakeholders.
• Monitor changes in reporting requirements and maintain alignment with regulations.
• Maintain clear records of data definitions and submission timelines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

Requirements

• Degree in data science, statistics, education, public policy, or related field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating data.
• Experience with federal and state reporting requirements in higher education.
• Experience creating data visualizations using tools like Power BI or Tableau.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office 365.
• Familiarity with national higher education data exchanges is preferred.
• Experience with student information systems is a plus.
• 3+ years of relevant experience for Advanced Professional level.
