Intermediate Accountant - Remote

Overview

The Intermediate Accountant will be responsible for preparing high-quality financial statements, tax returns, and supporting schedules for New Zealand clients. The role requires strong technical accounting skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work to deadlines in collaboration with the onshore team.

In Short

• Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with NZ IFRS and NZ tax legislation.
• Complete income tax, GST, FBT, and other returns as required.
• Assist with management accounts and periodic reporting.
• Prepare and review workpapers to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Reconcile bank accounts, debtors, creditors, GST, payroll, and other control accounts.
• Liaise with onshore managers regarding job progress, queries, and additional information requirements.
• Follow firm workflows, templates, and review procedures.
• Stay updated with NZ tax law changes and accounting standards.
• Contribute ideas to improve work efficiency and accuracy.
• Maintain confidentiality and data security standards at all times.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in public practice accounting.
• Experience with NZ accounting standards and tax compliance (or willingness to learn).
• Strong knowledge of accounting software, preferably Xero and Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Experience in an offshoring or outsourcing role is preferred.
• Familiarity with MYOB, WorkflowMax, FYI Docs, or similar tools is a plus.
• Knowledge of NZ CA firm workflows and reporting cycles is advantageous.
