Overview

We are seeking a Data Analyst to join the Fire Science team. The primary goal will be data analysis and supporting the team in innovating and generating new models to assess wildfire risk, aiding clients in better decision-making in operational environments. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate in scripting to automate analysis procedures, improving existing models within the company.

In Short

  • Join the Fire Science team and adapt to various workflows.
  • Process spatial data and perform numerical analysis.
  • Conduct statistical analyses and utilize machine learning models, as well as AI.
  • Collaborate with other teams to enhance company-wide processes.
  • Contribute to the automation of validation procedures by programming processes to monitor results of various products.
  • Document results of analyses and contribute to reports, presentations, and scientific publications.

Requirements

  • Degree in forestry engineering or similar; a PhD in fire sciences is highly valued.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in forestry projects, especially wildfires.
  • Experience in fire science and/or management, incident response, fuel management, fire research, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of spatial modeling systems for fire behavior and meteorology applied to wildfires is valued.
  • Knowledge of GIS systems (ArcGISPro, R); experience in producing and analyzing spatial data.
  • Advanced statistical knowledge.
  • Handling spatial data (rasters, netcdf, gribs, etc.).
  • Experience with R and/or Python in generating code for spatial and statistical data analysis; process automation.
  • Experience managing large volumes of data (parallelization, cloud processing, etc.).
  • Database usage (performing queries and executing scripts to access and extract data).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
