We are looking for an Obesity Specialist Nurse with an independent prescribing qualification to support patients as part of our digital-first healthcare service. In this role, you will conduct consultations, assess patient histories, prescribe medications from our limited formulary, and provide ongoing support to ensure safe and effective treatment.

In Short

  • Conducting remote consultations via asynchronous messaging, video, and telephone.
  • Reviewing patient histories, including Summary Care Records, biometric data, self-reported information, and current medications.
  • Prescribing medications in line with service treatment plans and national guidelines.
  • Providing advice and support to help patients manage their medication safely and effectively.
  • Monitoring patient progress through regular check-ins and planned follow-ups.
  • Escalating any clinical risks or concerns to the Lead Prescriber or Clinical Lead.
  • Collaborating with the wider MDT, including pharmacists, GPs, consultants, dietitians, and health coaches.
  • Auditing prescribing practices, including work completed by external prescribers using our pharmacy services.
  • Contributing to service development and the refinement of treatment plans.
  • Attending weekly MDT meetings to support collaborative decision-making.

Requirements

  • Has up-to-date clinical knowledge, particularly in relation to the conditions we treat and the medications we prescribe.
  • Is confident in prescribing and adheres to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Prescribing Competency Framework and General Medical Council’s Good Practice in Prescribing and Managing Medicines and Devices.
  • Can assess when remote care is appropriate and recognise potential safeguarding concerns.
  • Is proficient in handling referrals, interpreting medical reports, and managing information from GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Can work effectively using cloud-based systems and digital tools (full training provided).
  • Is able to manage their own schedule to ensure safe, effective, and timely service delivery.
  • Enjoys learning and developing—both clinically through CPD and operationally by contributing to service improvements.
  • Is comfortable working in a remote-first environment, communicating via email, chat, video calls, and telephone.
  • Works well within a team and is committed to supporting colleagues in their development.

Benefits

  • Be part of an innovative healthcare service.
  • Contribute to the future of digital-first prescribing.
