Overview

The Controller at Rocketship Public Schools is a senior leadership role responsible for all aspects of financial reporting, compliance, and stewardship, overseeing the Accounting team and ensuring effective school operations across multiple states.

In Short

• Lead a high-performing Accounting team.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain internal controls over accounting functions.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes.
• Collaborate with finance team to prepare financial statements.
• Manage audits and ensure timely completion.
• Implement and support accounting systems and processes.
• Hire and manage a skilled accounting team.
• Represent Rocketship’s financial interests with stakeholders.
• Align accounting team with the organization's mission.

Requirements

• Belief in Rocketship's mission and education model.
• CPA and/or MBA preferred.
• 8+ years of accounting experience in a leadership role.
• Experience in non-profit accounting preferred.
• Understanding of bond accounting and lease accounting.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of Federal and State grant compliance.
• Residence in a Rocketship region preferred.
• Experience in an emerging growth organization.
