Division Editor for PLOS Medicine - Remote

Overview

PLOS is a nonprofit organization on a mission to drive open science forward with measurable, meaningful change in research publishing, policy, and practice. We believe in a better future where science is open to all, for all. The Division Editor is the strategic head for their subject area in PLOS Medicine. In coordination with the Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief, they are responsible for creating and implementing a vision for content and promoting this within PLOS Medicine and the external community. This role maintains high standards for author service and contributes to policies and procedures that support Open Science practices.

In Short

• Manage Associate and/or Senior Editors.
• Recruit, train, manage and develop team members.
• Manage the work of your team and collaborate with vendor partners.
• Develop the editorial vision and strategy for your team.
• Oversee manuscripts within specific subject areas.
• Shape editorial policy and engage with communities.
• Support strong author service and ensure quality of published output.
• Lead journal-wide projects.
• Contribute to the development of products and services.
• Represent PLOS Medicine at external meetings.

Requirements

• Professional experience in managing peer review.
• Experience managing and training staff.
• Excellent analytic, communication and presentation skills.
• Embraces change with a positive attitude.
• Organized and efficient with strong problem-solving ability.
• A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
