Overview

The Pharmacy Intern supports the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medications in a safe and timely manner under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

In Short

• Fills and delivers medications to nursing units.
• Assists in sterile compounding and preparation of IV admixtures.
• Assembles chemotherapeutic agents using aseptic techniques.
• Prepares extemporaneous dosage forms not available commercially.
• Conducts daily temperature checks of nursing unit refrigerators.
• Inventories and restocks pharmacy supplies.
• Provides good customer service at the pharmacy window.
• Adheres to HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy.
• Maintains proper licensure and educational requirements.
• Assists in gathering drug information for healthcare professionals.

Requirements

• High School diploma required.
• Enrollment in an accredited Pharmacy Program.
• Training as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician preferred.
• Eligibility for Massachusetts registration as a Pharmacy Intern.
• Familiarity with medical/drug terminology preferred.
• Ability to handle controlled substances appropriately.
• Demonstrated ability to walk and stand for long periods.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Demonstrates proper use of pharmacy equipment.
• Adheres to department and hospital policies.
