Overview

The Operations Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Operations Administrator to provide day-to-day support in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of HRW’s Berlin office. This is a one-year fixed-term, full-time position at 40 hours per week for parental leave coverage.

In Short

  • Act as the local Finance representative and assist with the implementation of Finance policies.
  • Manage bank accounts and cash flows.
  • Assist with office budget establishment and monitoring.
  • Process financial transactions including payroll and reimbursements.
  • Handle HR queries and assist with recruitment and onboarding.
  • Maintain office facilities and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Liaise with IT to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Assist with legal and governance compliance.
  • Travel occasionally as required.
  • Carry out other necessary duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of operations or administrative experience.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and German.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in nonprofit management is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of local employment laws.
  • Current German work authorization.
