Overview

The Respiratory Therapist provides assessment, treatment, care, and evaluation for patients with respiratory disorders under licensed medical direction.

In Short

  • Administers therapeutic respiratory care procedures according to hospital and department policies.
  • Completes documentation required to measure, monitor, and ensure department effectiveness.
  • Performs diagnostic respiratory procedures according to hospital and department policies.
  • Provides instruction to patients and other healthcare team members as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Minimum qualifications include a graduate of an approved respiratory therapy program.
  • Must have Pennsylvania state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist or Temporary Practice Permit.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) required prior to the expiration of the Temporary Practice Permit.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association is necessary.
  • Preferred qualifications include being Registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care and having two years' experience in pulmonary/respiratory medicine in a hospital setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved respiratory therapy program.
  • Pennsylvania state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist or Temporary Practice Permit.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Preferred: Registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care (RRT).
  • Two years' experience in pulmonary/respiratory medicine in a hospital setting preferred.
