Intermediate Backend Engineer (Ruby or Go) - Remote

Overview

As a Backend Engineer, your work within the GitLab Operate team will focus on delivering and supporting GitLab for self-managed customers. This role centers on the infrastructure, tooling, and automation that power GitLab deployments.

In Short

• Maintain and evolve the GitLab Omnibus package.
• Contribute to the development of GitLab Helm Charts.
• Enhance and support the GitLab Environment Toolkit (GET).
• Support the GitLab Operator project.
• Ensure a consistent installation and upgrade experience for GitLab.
• Collaborate with Security to address vulnerabilities.
• Build and maintain automation pipelines.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams.
• Create user-focused documentation.
• Ensure quality, reliability, and performance of deployment methods.

Requirements

• Production experience with Kubernetes and Helm.
• Proficiency in Ruby, Go, and Bash scripting.
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code.
• Practical experience with databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of secure deployment practices.
• Experience with large codebases and distributed teams.
• Ability to write clear documentation.
• Experience with major cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure).
• Knowledge of service scaling strategies.
• Familiarity with Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
