Statewide Education Project Attorney - Remote

Overview

This GLSP position will be responsible for supporting GLSP’s education advocacy throughout Georgia. The Statewide Education Project is a specialized work group providing services throughout GLSP’s 154 county service area under the supervision of GLSP’s Supervising Attorney of the Statewide Education Project (SEP). The types of legal issues addressed by the SEP attorney change frequently in response to the needs of students and their guardians and the forum in which they appear. The SEP attorney may be located anywhere in Georgia with possibility after initial 9 months for hybrid work.

In Short

• Represent students and parents in education cases.
• Support education advocacy statewide.
• Provide legal support to GLSP and pro bono attorneys.
• Develop and maintain legal resources for attorneys.
• Develop and deliver training regarding education law.
• Investigate and carry out systemic education advocacy.
• Identify and develop strategies to address systemic issues.
• Stay current on education law and trends.
• Some travel and evening/weekend work required.
• Remote work possible after initial period.

• Strong negotiation and litigation skills.
• Well organized with competing priorities.
• Leadership and mentoring skills.
• Familiarity with Georgia public schools preferred.
• Licensed to practice in GA with at least one year of experience.
• Spanish fluency is a plus.
