AI Safety Investigator - Remote

Overview

The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is hiring an AI Safety Investigator to bring the spirit of investigative journalism to FLI. The investigator will document safety practices at the industry's most powerful corporations, explain incidents and best practices to the general public, and help FLI incentivize a race to the top on safety.

• Investigate corporate practices in AI safety.
• Build a network of key current and former employees at major corporations.
• Conduct desk research and surveys of AI corporations.
• Prepare summaries of AI incidents and prevention strategies.
• Lead the development of FLI's AI Safety Index.
• Conduct research against safety indicators to score AI corporations.
• Communicate insights to the public in structured formats.
• Create data visualizations and written media to communicate findings.
• Work with communication partners to amplify key findings.
• Willingness to travel to the SF Bay Area, California on occasion.

Requirements

• Fluency in English, both written and oral.

• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
• Capacity to assess AI safety incidents rapidly.
