Technical Assistant - Remote

Overview

We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to join Fife Council’s School Transport Team. You will help plan and deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective transport for children and young people across Fife, including those with Additional Support Needs. The School Transport team is responsible for arranging home to school transport for over 13,000 pupils travelling daily on buses, taxis and minibuses at a cost to the Council of £19M.

In Short

• Arrange new transport and amend existing contracts.
• Assess transport entitlement and design specifications for journeys.
• Liaise with transport providers, schools, parents, and other services.
• Investigate and resolve day-to-day issues and complaints.
• Negotiate contract costs with transport providers.
• Assist in walking route assessments and on-site checks.
• Maintain accurate information using IT systems.
• Work with a busy workload and communicate clearly.
• Make informed decisions based on Council policy.
• Potential for blended working arrangement with home-working opportunities.

Requirements

• Educated to SCQF Level 6 (e.g., Highers or SVQ Level 3).
• Experience of working as part of a team.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and experience dealing with the public.
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft applications.
• Ability to make informed decisions and use initiative.
• Knowledge of Fife Council School Transport Policy is helpful.
• Comfortable managing a busy workload.
• Ability to travel to and attend office locations in Fife as required.
• Experience in transport management is a plus.
