We are seeking a Kong API Gateway Specialist to support the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in modernizing and securing enterprise APIs across mission-critical tax systems.

In Short

Design, configure, and maintain Kong API Gateway for IRS enterprise services.
Implement plugins for authentication, authorization, rate limiting, caching, logging, and transformation.
Integrate Kong with IRS IAM and Zero Trust initiatives.
Develop automation for Kong configurations using decK, Terraform, or Ansible.
Ensure compliance with IRS security standards.
Monitor and optimize API performance using observability tools.
Support DevOps pipelines for API deployment.
Collaborate with IRS developers and operations staff.
Develop documentation and training materials for IRS staff.

Requirements

5+ years in API management, integration, or middleware.
2+ years in Kong Gateway administration.
Experience in federal environments preferred.
Hands-on expertise with Kong Enterprise.
Knowledge of containerization and orchestration.
Strong scripting skills.
Familiarity with observability tools.
Proven experience in secure API deployments.
Active Public Trust or higher clearance preferred.
