Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Remote

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support federal cybersecurity operations, strategy, and compliance initiatives. The SME will play a critical role in ensuring that government information systems are secure, compliant with regulatory frameworks, and resilient against evolving cyber threats. The ideal candidate brings both technical depth and strategic insight, with proven experience supporting federal agencies as a government contractor.

In Short

• Provide expert guidance on cybersecurity architecture, threat mitigation strategies, and enterprise risk management.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and plans.
• Conduct risk assessments and gap analyses to evaluate system security posture against federal requirements.
• Advise stakeholders on current and emerging threats and best practices.
• Support the implementation of security controls in accordance with NIST SP 800-53 and 800-171.
• Contribute to security authorization packages and ATO processes.
• Collaborate with agency IT and cybersecurity teams.
• Provide subject matter expertise during audits and cybersecurity program reviews.
• Create and deliver technical documentation and briefings for stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 15+ years of relevant cybersecurity experience.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and standards.
• Familiarity with enterprise tools for vulnerability management and cloud security.
• Professional certifications preferred (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA).
• Excellent communication skills.
