Staff Reporter - Remote

Overview

The Staff Reporter works with the Newsroom team in the Content Division, reporting on politics through an unapologetically progressive lens. This role produces timely, original reporting that equips readers with information and resources to fight for democracy, win elections, and hold our government accountable.

In Short

• Identify and pitch several stories per day, from quick pieces to longer reports.
• Build and maintain relationships with political leaders and organizations.
• Contribute to coverage of breaking news and live events.
• Track news developments in real time to alert editors.
• Produce data-driven reporting on statewide politics and campaign finance.
• Analyze datasets to identify trends and story opportunities.
• Incorporate video into stories using video-clipping software.
• Engage readers through an active social media presence.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of original reporting experience at a digital news outlet.
• Experience in advocacy or accountability journalism.
• Ability to conduct interviews and reach out to sources.
• A portfolio demonstrating original and enterprise reporting.
• Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Knowledge of digital best practices, including SEO.
