Overview

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Entomology Program is seeking a Seasonal Program Assistant to provide part-time support for agriculture-related research trials and assist in day-to-day operations at the Long Island Horticultural Research and Extension Center.

In Short

• Provide part-time support for agriculture-related research trials.
• Work hours: 8 am - 4:30 pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
• Perform farm/greenhouse duties including planting, potting, weeding, and watering.
• Assist with data collection and entry.
• Travel weekly to off-site locations for insect traps installation.
• Manage program files and records.
• Record photographs and/or videos of experiments.
• Work starts in June 2025 and ends in September 2025.
• Option for part-time work in the fall if available.
• Must be able to lift 20-30 lbs. unassisted.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• 6 months volunteer or work experience.
• Ability to work outdoors and perform various field activities.
• Must be reliable and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid NYS driver’s license and personal vehicle for on-the-job transportation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Comfortable working in an agricultural setting.
• Ability to understand and implement written and oral communication.
• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with the position.
