Overview

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for maintaining the surgical suite, handling instruments during procedures, and ensuring a sterile environment while assisting surgical teams.

In Short

  • Prepares the surgical suite and maintains sterile conditions.
  • Handles instruments and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Assists in patient positioning and safety throughout surgeries.
  • Performs counts of surgical sponges, needles, and instruments.
  • Maintains knowledge of surgical procedures and assists in case costing.
  • May serve as a preceptor for new staff.
  • Works with physicians to update preference cards.
  • Engages in continuous education and training.
  • Participates in on-call weekend rotations.
  • Contributes to a collaborative and safe healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • No prior experience required, healthcare experience preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training.
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations.
