Overview

The City of New York’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is seeking a Special Education Attorney to support special education impartial due process hearings for students with disabilities, ensuring fair and efficient adjudication.

In Short

• Conduct legal research and writing for special education cases.
• Facilitate settlement conferences between parents and the NYC Department of Education.
• Manage case records and appellate reviews.
• Prepare and coordinate necessary documentation.
• Work collaboratively with Special Education Hearing Officers.
• Conduct oral and written presentations.
• Maintain professionalism in all interactions.
• Support the mission of the OATH Special Education Hearings Division.
• Available for hybrid office/remote work after training.
• Must be a member of the New York State Bar.

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• Four years of relevant legal experience.
• Eighteen months in a supervisory role.
• Experience in administrative, managerial, or executive legal work.
• Strong knowledge of special education law.
