Assistant Corporation Counsel – Tort, Queens Intake Attorney - Remote

Overview

The New York City Law Department’s Tort Division is seeking an Intake Attorney for its Queens Office. Intake Attorneys are responsible for reviewing, analyzing, preparing, and updating incoming cases assigned to the Queens Unit and supervising the Queens Intake support professionals.

In Short

• Review and develop litigation strategies for new Queens cases.
• Participate in and/or conduct case reviews.
• Meet with support professionals and supervisors to discuss case-preparation strategies.
• Request document discovery and secure relevant evidence.
• Analyze agency documents and on-line data.
• Draft affirmative and defensive motions.
• Conduct factual and legal research.
• Conduct interviews of City employees.
• Maintain an updated spreadsheet of assigned Intake cases.
• Refer potentially high-exposure cases and negotiate matters to resolution.

Requirements

• Must be admitted and in good standing in New York.
• Two years of experience handling tort cases or relevant experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong organizational skills.
