Associate Director, Scientific Communications - Remote

Overview

The Associate Director (AD) functions as a key member of the Scientific Communications team, ensuring high quality scientific outputs with appropriate utilization of resources. The AD will work with the Director of Scientific Communications to develop and implement scientific communication strategy, manage the scientific communication plan for assigned product and therapeutic areas, and oversee scientific messaging for marketed and clinical products.

• Develop and ensure timely execution of the scientific communication plan for BioMarin’s program in skeletal conditions.
• Contribute to development and implementation of scientific messaging.
• Ensure cross-functional alignment of messaging and strategies.
• Develop expert knowledge of product- and disease-specific literature.
• Organize and implement expert meetings necessary for publication strategy development.
• Support scientific congress activities including content development.
• Facilitate the development of treatment and management guidelines.
• Research, draft, and edit scientific and medical manuscripts.
• Manage agency and/or contract medical writers and graphic designers.
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings to share planning status.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (MS or higher) in life or health sciences.
• 7 or more years of relevant experience in scientific communications.
• 2 or more years managing direct reports is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex scientific data.
• Advanced understanding of statistical and clinical research concepts.
• Understanding of biotech/pharmaceutical clinical and regulatory processes.
• Strong leadership skills, including ability to lead cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
