Back-End Software Engineer - Remote

Overview

Aquia is hiring a Back-End Software Engineer to support the modernization of digital forms and benefit applications for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is part of the Non-Disability Benefits Forms team, responsible for powering essential services such as burial, education, and healthcare benefits.

In Short

• Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs and business logic.
• Build secure and scalable services integrating with internal and external systems.
• Contribute to pre-fill capabilities and real-time data validation.
• Ensure backend architecture promotes high availability and performance.
• Implement and maintain secure data exchange in compliance with VA policies.
• Collaborate with front-end engineers and product managers.
• Contribute to DevSecOps practices using tools like Jenkins and Docker.
• Write clear, maintainable code and technical documentation.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building backend applications and APIs.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API architecture.
• Experience integrating with legacy systems and cloud environments.
• Familiarity with government security and compliance requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and collaborative mindset.
• Proficiency with version control, containerization, and CI/CD tooling.
