Contract Software Engineer, SQL Migration - Remote

Overview

Ambrook is seeking an experienced engineer to assist in migrating their core production system from Firestore to PostgreSQL, working closely with a full-time engineer to ensure a reliable and incremental transition.

In Short

• Support migration of core production system from Firestore to PostgreSQL.
• Implement dual-write systems to keep Firestore and PostgreSQL in sync.
• Contribute to a JSONB-based Postgres schema.
• Build tooling for validating data parity across backfilled organizations.
• Work collaboratively with existing engineers on migration challenges.
• Ensure correctness, performance, and observability of the dual-store system.
• Experience with real-world NoSQL to relational migrations required.
• Strong SQL understanding, particularly with Postgres.
• Ability to work independently while communicating effectively.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and focused on incremental progress.

Requirements

• Experience migrating systems from NoSQL to relational backends.
• Knowledge of correctness, consistency, and failure modes in production systems.
• Proficiency in writing clean, well-tested code, ideally in TypeScript.
• Deep understanding of SQL, including indexing strategies and JSONB.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and value incremental progress.
