Overview

The Radiographer performs a variety of patient care duties to produce high quality radiologic images including general radiography, fluoroscopy, and portable imaging.

In Short

  • Performs various radiographic imaging in areas including OR, ER, pain clinic, orthopedic and fluoroscopy.
  • Provides radiation protection by placing and adjusting lead shield(s) and collimating in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Assists radiologists, speech pathologists, and surgeons in their respective areas.
  • Maintains knowledge of Radiation Safety, Hospital and Departmental Policies.
  • Mentors and assists in the training of Radiologic Technologist students and new staff.
  • Participates in the quality assurance plan for the Diagnostic Imaging program.
  • Enters the appropriate charges into the EMR accurately for all exams.
  • Ensures that all exams are of high quality and available for interpretation in a timely fashion.
  • Monitors the equipment performance and takes appropriate measures for resolution.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with all departmental and hospital staff.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an approved program in Radiologic Sciences.
  • Must maintain a current Massachusetts state license as a Radiologic technologist.
  • Must maintain a current ARRT registry in Radiologic Sciences.
  • New graduates must obtain ARRT certification within 1 year of start of employment.
  • Must maintain a current BLS.
  • Must be able to multi-task and think proactively.
  • 0-2 years’ experience as a Radiologic technologist.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 2 years clinical internship via Radiologic Sciences program.
