Vox Media is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our data team — a group at the intersection of data engineering, backend development, and generative AI applications. This is a hybrid role, blending strong back-end software development with applied data engineering and AI.

In Short

Build and maintain production-grade back-end services using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud.
Develop and evolve AI-powered applications using APIs from OpenAI and other providers.
Contribute to Remix, our content intelligence platform for search and recommendations.
Help maintain VoxStar, our user data store for personalized experiences.
Write well-structured code, tests, and documentation for scalable services.
Create deployment workflows and manage cloud infrastructure.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate problems into technical solutions.
Contribute to data engineering workflows using Python and SQL.

Requirements

Experienced Python backend engineer or data engineer.
Comfortable in cloud-native environments and API development.
Fluent in SQL and experienced with cloud data warehouses or relational databases.
Interested in generative AI and eager to learn.
Thoughtful about architecture and trade-offs in software design.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
