Physician Coding Specialist - Remote

Overview

The Physician Coding Specialist is responsible for analyzing medical records to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices, and compliance with regulatory standards.

In Short

• Review medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and payer guidelines.
• Assist with coding-related audits and compliance efforts.
• Identify coding deficiencies and communicate with the Medical Coding Auditor.
• Work closely with Dermatology physicians and administrative staff.
• Analyze requirements and test systems, exporting data in EDI formats.
• Document analysis and reporting projects following department protocols.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes impacting operational processes.
• Collaborate with other departments to correct systemic data errors.
• Maintain professional relationships and manage projects across teams.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in coding for dermatology procedures.
• 2+ years of experience in a remote working environment.
• Coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS-P) required.
• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Hands-on experience with 834 & 837 files for health plans.
• Proven ability to impact process improvement and efficient operations.
• Strong communication skills with internal staff and insurance companies.
• Ability to prioritize and organize daily tasks effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and positive attitude.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
