Overview

The Patient Financial Ombudsman supports the Director of Revenue Cycle Optimization by serving as a neutral, confidential resource for patients and families to address unresolved medical billing concerns that cannot be resolved through standard customer service workflows.

  • Facilitates dispute resolution for medical billing concerns.
  • Communicates with patients about billing processes and financial options.
  • Monitors billing errors and systemic trends.
  • Develops and presents reports on case volumes and resolution metrics.
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Engages with multiple stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Requires at least five years of experience in revenue cycle operations.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in patient revenue cycle management.
  • Minimum five years of direct experience in revenue cycle operations.
  • Minimum three years of experience interpreting insurance benefits.
  • Experience with Epic or similar revenue cycle management system.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical billing and coding practices.
  • Strong analytical and mediation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain neutrality.
  • Cultural responsiveness.
  • Strong customer service skills.
