Director, Global Indirect Tax - Remote

Overview

Upwork is looking for a Director, Global Indirect Tax to lead our entire indirect tax function from end-to-end, ensuring compliance with various tax requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

In Short

• Own and evolve Upwork’s global indirect tax strategy.
• Lead implementation and optimization of global indirect tax processes.
• Manage the indirect tax budget and identify efficiencies.
• Be the face of Upwork to government tax auditors.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to support new product launches.
• Monitor evolving tax regulations and translate them into strategic actions.
• Provide M&A support for indirect tax due diligence.
• Build and mentor a high-performing tax team.
• Communicate complex tax issues effectively.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and tax advisors.

Requirements

• Effective communicator, both written and oral.
• Ability to provide tax consultancy for products.
• Deep expertise in global indirect taxes.
• EA, CPA, or J.D. required.
• 8+ years of experience in relevant fields.
• Strong leadership and project management skills.
• Experience in tax engine management.
• Experience with Alteryx.
