Overview

The RN-Clinical Documentation Specialist, First Reviewer is responsible for performing concurrent analytical reviews of clinical and coding data to improve physician documentation, ensuring accurate reflection of patient conditions and compliance with documentation guidelines.

  • Maintains productivity levels in documentation reviews.
  • Queries physicians for missing or unclear documentation.

  • Assists in mortality review processes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinical topics and coding guidelines.
  • Maintains expertise through continuing education.
  • Works in a safe and alert manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 12 months of experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist.
  • Graduate of accredited nursing school or equivalent.
  • CCDS certification required.
  • 2 years of experience in an acute care setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of patient safety indicators and mortality reviews.
  • Ability to educate and collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform job requirements.
  • State licensure as required.
