Staff Attorney - Remote

Overview

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press is hiring a staff attorney to expand its ability to respond to legal threats to press freedom and ensure journalists have access to pro bono legal resources.

In Short

• Provide direct legal services to journalists and news organizations.
• Represent clients in litigation involving newsgathering and First Amendment rights.
• Draft amicus briefs and supervise junior attorneys.
• Conduct trainings for journalists on media law.
• Advise on legal issues related to newsgathering and privacy.
• Work collaboratively with other attorneys at the organization.
• Focus on access to judicial records and freedom of information.
• Must be admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C.
• Minimum of four years of relevant litigation experience required.
• Salary range based on experience: $118,600 - $134,700.

Requirements

• Admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C. or eligible for admission.
• Four years of litigation experience, preferably in media law.
• Excellent legal research and communication skills.
• Leadership skills to guide legal fellows and interns.
• Strong judgment and professional integrity.
• Passion for protecting press freedom.
