Assistant Controller - Remote

Overview

The Assistant Controller supports the Corporate Controller and finance leadership team in managing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and audit processes. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, and strengthening internal controls across a growing multi-entity organization.

In Short

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain accounting for fixed assets, goodwill, intangible assets, leases, debt, and financing activities.
• Prepare and review technical accounting entries such as stock-based compensation and lease accounting.
• Ensure financial reporting accuracy in accordance with GAAP.
• Prepare audit schedules and manage documentation requests.
• Coordinate with external tax advisors on federal, state, and local tax filings.
• Support business personal property tax filings and entity compliance activities.
• Facilitate annual federal and state K‑1 distribution processes.
• Track debt agreements and lease accounting schedules.
• Maintain accounting for self-insurance liabilities.

Requirements

• B.S. in Accounting.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting best practices.
• Experience with technical accounting topics preferred.
• Experience in private equity–backed companies strongly preferred.
• ERP experience required; Sage Intacct preferred.
• Exceptional analytical skills.
• Self-starter and can work independently.
