Overview

The Director, Patent Counsel supports PTC’s global Intellectual Property (IP) legal needs, working closely with the research organization and internal IP legal team to prepare and prosecute patent applications.

In Short

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications to support R&D goals.
  • Manage international patent docket.
  • Interact cross-functionally to gather information for patent applications.
  • Attend internal meetings with stakeholders to obtain subject matter background.
  • Ensure patentability requirements for applications are met.
  • Review examination communications from patent offices.
  • Consult with IP team personnel for instructions to external IP counsel.
  • Review draft responses from external IP counsel.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Work in a hybrid position with occasional travel.

Requirements

  • JD degree with a minimum of 5 years related legal experience.
  • Experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Admission to at least one state bar.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with SharePoint, ChemDraw, EFS Web, or Adobe preferred.
