PlanetScale is growing rapidly and reinventing the transactional database market. The PlanetScale platform offers both Postgres and Vitess clusters. Vitess, an open-source database clustering system for horizontal scaling of MySQL, enables businesses to efficiently handle large-scale data workloads — without sacrificing developer experience.

In Short

• Build and lead PlanetScale’s Data Science function.
• Support best in class analytics, forecasting, and decision-making.
• Partner with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Engineering for analytics.
• Drive analysis of feature adoption and customer health.
• Own the data warehouse and metric layer.
• Fluency in SQL and analytical modeling required.
• Experience with modern data analysis tools and dashboards.
• Proficiency with dbt or similar transformation frameworks.
• Skilled in experimentation and predictive modeling.
• Excellent communication across all functions.

Requirements

• Fluency in SQL and analytical modeling.
• Hands-on experience building dashboards and analyses.
• Proficiency with dbt or modern transformation frameworks.
• Analytical and statistical breadth in experimentation and forecasting.
• Python experience for analysis and data cleaning.
• Knowledge of data pipelines and orchestration.
• Ability to work in a startup environment with autonomy.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Awareness of warehouse performance (nice to have).
